WDAFL Grant recipient is Emmeline Francisco, age 10, riding 28 yr old Dartmoor pony, Brownwood’s Peas and Carrots, shares her experience for the May 15, 2022 clinic at Shady Oaks Stables.
Today was a great day at Shady Oaks Stables in Brunswick, GA! Thanks to an education grant I received from WDAFL, I was able to ride in a clinic taught by Ms Greta Wrigley of Greta Wrigley Training.
Riding with Ms Greta helps me improve on the skills I have been learning in my regular riding lessons. Ms Greta talks through the skills and always finds a way to help me understand what I need to do. If I make a mistake, she explains what I did wrong, and we continue to practice until I get it right.
Today’s clinic work helped me learn to control the pace of my working jog. We worked on quicker transitions between the working walk and the lope. Another skill we practiced today was improving my leg yields in the working walk and jog. Additionally, Ms Greta assisted me with the side pass in the walk.
Riding western dressage continues to be an exciting, learning experience in a discipline that is unknown to most young riders. Thank you WDAFL for the grant which helped further my knowledge of western dressage techniques. And thank you, Ms Greta, for a challenging and fun morning!
