Dear WDAFL Board,

Thank you very much for the generous educational grant! My grant was used to attend a lesson given by Stephanie Soule.

Stephanie worked patiently with me and my new gelding, Hank, on transitions and energy at the walk. She brought to my attention some habits I have allowed to develop in my hand position which need corrected.

Please continue these educational grants! They are such a blessing in a time when we are economizing.

Dear WDAFL,

I took a lesson with Stephanie Soule on Saturday August 13. We worked on free walk, jogging, and loping transitions. I have a tendency to get tense when I go into my free walk mostly with anticipation and nerves and my horse feeds off of that. Stephanie Soule helped me with relaxing a little bit and moving my elbows/arms back in forth in kind of a seesaw motion to help keep her moving forward and out. She also taught what being behind the vertical means with the horses head. In the jog we worked on pointing our belly button and shoulders in the direction of where we’re going rather than relying solely on reins and legs. We used this exercise in lope transitions and moving my outside leg back and kicking instead of me shifting my hip and kicking. I learned a lot in this lesson, and I am grateful for this opportunity. Thank you so much!
