What Does The Association Do For Me?

WDAFL was founded with a primary purpose of providing education about Western Dressage. The founding members felt this discipline was something that every western rider could use to better their riding skill and the training of their horse. And so, the journey in Florida began!

Today, WDAFL is an association that generally has 75-100 members or more. The association is led by a board of directors elected by the membership. The executive board is determined amongst all members of the board. The board is charged with carrying out the business of the association. In that context, there are a number of benefits our members receive.

Low Membership Fee

So don’t miss out on receiving these benefits! We’ve kept our membership fee at a very affordable $30 per year so that everyone can begin their journey. (Remember, you must also be a member of WDAA for your Florida Affiliate membership to be valid.) Become a WDAFL member today! Visit the website to join at WDAFL.org.

Why Join?

Representation To WDAA

The Florida Western Dressage Association is one of the largest in the country. The board actively represents our members’ interests to the WDAA.

Reduced Class Fees At Some Shows

Some shows throughout the state reduce Western Dressage class fees for current members of WDAFL. Your annual membership dues can be easily recovered by competing in just a few shows that provide reduced rate classes for members.

Website Information

Our website is a great place to get information about Western Dressage activities. It serves as a free place to list your events such as shows, clinics, etc. Just visit the site and submit your event. We’ll put it on our calendar so the entire Western Dressage community can find what is happening in their area!
We also have a list of Western Dressage professionals from throughout the state. Visit this list to find a professional that can help you on your journey!

Social Media

WDAFL has a large and active following on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. These platforms allow us to post great information about Western Dressage and association information and activities that are happening. We are also working on a WDAFL YouTube channel. It is up and running but needs your videos! You can post videos of your tests for others to see and learn.

Annual Show

Each year our Annual Show is held at a central Florida location. This show was envisioned to be an opportunity for Western Dressage riders from across the state to compete against each other. It serves as a great show weekend for members that may not have the resources to travel to the World show, as well as those members that do.

High Point Awards Program

Florida began offering a year end High Point Awards program before WDAA even offered the national program. Our award program continues to this day. It is a very affordable program for members which only costs an annual fee of $25 per rider/horse/level ($20 for youth), with no additional fees to submit tests for the program.

Youth Development In Western Dressage

WDAFL knows that the future of any organization lies with the youth. We want more youth to experience the benefits of Western Dressage training by becoming a member of the association. We also provide year end awards, annual show classes, and other educational opportunities designed specifically for youth.

Grants Available

In the last few years, WDAFL began offering a grant program. The program provides educational/lesson grants (one each month) of $50 to $100 for furthering a rider’s education. The program also provides 3 grants per year (one each for Open/Professional, Amateur, and Youth) for time Annual Show participants. These grants are each awarded at $250 to help defray the cost of the annual show.
